The Church of the Larger Fellowship is leading a group of Unitarian Universalists that believe ABOLITION IS FAITH FORMATION should be the powerful issue that Unitarian Universalists study nationwide over the next four years, as a way to deepen our faith and our commitment to justice.
CLF proposes the following Congregational Study Action Issue (CSAI) for delegates to vote at GA 2025 as our nationwide UU topic of study for 2025 through 2029:
The Church of the Larger Fellowship proposes a CSAI which utilizes what we’ve learned through our Worthy Now Prison Ministry to bring Abolition Faith Formation to the wider UU community. We define Abolition with a holistic lens that includes how to establish transformative justice practices all the way through dismantling the prison industrial complex. Abolition and how it relates to our Unitarian Universalist theology is largely not understood or misunderstood as a foundational practice of our faith.
Join us in voting at GA 2025 to study abolition together, as a faith, as our next four year Congregational Study Action Issue.
The congregational study-action process is the process by which the UUA takes permanent positions on important social justice issues. This process begins by selecting a Congregational Study-Action Issue (CSAI) at a General Assembly. The chosen CSAI then becomes a topic of congregational study for four years, aided by an in-depth study guide that will be created once the issue is chosen. From the congregational study, a Statement of Conscience (SOC) is drafted and sent to the General Assembly for amendment and passage. If the GA passes an SOC, it becomes the policy of the UUA, and is used to guide program, staffing, and legislative priorities. Whether or not an SOC ultimately passes the General Assembly, we believe that the process of studying this topic will be transformative for our congregations and our faith.
Delegates at GA 2025 will vote for one of three proposed CSAIs. Based on the vote, one of the three proposed will be chosen to be the CSAI that will be studied for four years.
We need your help to get GA delegates to vote to study Abolition is Faith Formation!
