Karen G. Johnston is the settled minister at The Unitarian Society in East Brunswick, New Jersey where she has served since 2016.She graduated from the Cooperative Masters of Divinity program between Hartford Seminary and Andover Newton Theological School.Before becoming a minister, Karen spent 20+ years as a licensed clinical social worker in the field of home visiting, child abuse prevention, and families with infants & toddlers.
Originally from Oregon, Karen raised her two adopted children (now young adults) in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts.There she took part in grassroots poetry groups, as well as building community support for queer families and adoptive families and all the myriad beautiful constellations of families.She came to Unitarian Universalism in her late twenties and maintains a meditation practice (often in need of practice!), and seek spiritual groundedness, within Insight Meditation, a Western form of Buddhism.
