THIS WEEK (March 7th) ON THE VUU – How Covenant Can Help Us Challenge the Status Quo – The VUU #251
On The VUU as we chatted with UU Community Minister, Julica Hermann de la Fuente on how to use covenant to challenge the status quo.
Julica Hermann de la Fuente is a Lay Community Minister and currently serves as a retreat leader for the Beloved Conversations program and an anti-racism coach and trainer at large for Unitarian Universalist religious professionals and congregations. Born and raised in Mexico City, she first became committed to social justice when she came to the United States for college. Since then, she has spent the past two decades seeking new ways to engage in anti-racism and anti-oppression education that centers faith formation and helps us heal our hearts and our institutions from the impact of colonialism and white supremacy culture. When she’s not on shift for the resistance, you will find her playing with fabric, making costumes for her two daughters, and reading optimistic sci-fi and fantasy possibilities of a just and equitable universe.

We chatted with Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU) Executive Director, Lena Gardner, about the 2019 Harper-Jordan Memorial Symposium and what’s next with BLUU.
From the BLUU website – “The Harper-Jordan Memorial Symposium responds to a longing on the part of many Black Unitarian Universalists to more fully understand where they have been, who they are now, and how they hope to live out Unitarian Universalism as Black people. The Symposium is open to everyone, and is prioritizing spaces for Black people, Indigenous people and People of Color. This exciting symposium is named for Frances Ellen Watkins Harper (abolitionist, suffragist, author, Unitarian) and Rev. Joseph Jordan (the first Black ordained Universalist).” For more information about this event and BLUU in general go to http://www.blacklivesuu.com
